A round-up of the latest Newcastle United headlines on Monday, November 28.

Newcastle United are set for their biggest-ever sponsorship deal for the 2023/24 season with their deal with Fun88 ended a year early.

News of Fun88s deal in 2017 brought with it talk that the agreement was the most lucrative inclubhistory as former stars such as Supermac, Bob Moncur and Frank Clark launched the kit at the training ground. The Chinese betting firm will see their logo on the shirt for the final time in the Premier League after the last match of the season away to Chelsea though.

Half a decade ago the word at United was that Fun88s deal had beaten the 24million Wonga deal in place in the years before. But at 6.5million a year, Fun88s deal could look like a drop in the ocean as the club prepare for their next big commercial move.

Newcastle United sit in a mightly impressive third place in the Premier League after a superb first half of the season with hopes still alive in both domestic cups.

Youd have to go back to December 2001 to have heard a statement like that aboutthe Magpiesbecause that was the last time that three paths to glory were still open at this time of year. Back then a quarter-final exit to Chelsea in the League Cup and a last-eight defeat to Arsenal in the FA Cup ended silverware hopes before Newcastle finished the season in fourth place but led the table over Christmas that year under Sir Bobby Robson.

But there is genuine optimism that United can either qualify for Europe again, for the first time since 2012 or do well in one of the cups. And Eddie Howe is hardly playing down the prospect of winning something either.

Boyhood Newcastle United fan and Sheffield Wednesday striker Michael Smith has admitted that a trip to St.James Park with the Owls would be his dream scenario ahead of the FA Cup third round draw.

The League One outfit progressed to the third round via a 2-1 home win over League Two Mansfield, with the ex-Rotherham forward netting twice from the bench to secure progression for the Hillsborough club.

Round three of the competition is where Premier League and Championship clubs join the fray withNewcastleand Wednesday set to learn their FA Cup opponents this evening.

Newcastle United players are already back to work after a two-week break for the World Cup.

United sporting directorDan Ashworthhas planned a mini pre-season along with Eddie Howe and his backroom team with the non-World Cup stars returning to Benton then flying out to Saudi Arabia next Sunday. In Riyadh, they will face a warm weather training camp and a friendly against Al-Hilal.

United will return to domestic action with a League Cup fourth round clash against AFC Bournemouth on December 21. And there first game back in the Premier League will be the trip to Leicester City on Boxing Day.

Newcastle Uniteds scouting team have been keeping close tabs on the World Cup with some January targets involved in the Qatar tournament.

Like a lot of top-flight clubs talent spotters have not been handed time off during the tournament and have instead been allocated certain scouting missions on targets or entire World Cup groups to glean the competition for new stars.Unitedare already keeping close tabs on Brighton & Hove Albions Leandro Trossard who has been in action for Belgium.

However, Trossard and his team-mates have endured a tough tournament so far after scraping a 1-0 win over Canada in Group F and then losing 2-0 to Morocco on Sunday in one of the shocks of the World Cup so far. Trossards form for the Seagulls going into Qatar was good with seven goals to his name this term.

Croatia boss Zlatko Dalic told Canada counterpart John Herdman he has to learn some things after claiming the pair did not shake hands after their World Cup finals clash.

Dalic saw his side come back from Alphonso Davies early strike - the Canadians first goal at the mens finals tournament - to win the Group F encounter at the Khalifa International Stadium 4-1 on Sunday. Before the match, the Croatia head coach had urged his opposite number to show some respect after Herdman told his players to make life uncomfortable for their opponents in industrial language.

Herdman revealed he told his players go and eff Croatia in an on-pitch huddle following their hard-fought defeat to Belgium in theirWorld Cupopener on Wednesday. He said: I did not see the other head coach after the match. Whether I lose or win, I always congratulate the other head coach.

Nick Pope has heaped praise on Newcastle United centre-backs Sven Botman and Fabian Schar after a successful first half of the campaign.

The England goalie has struck a wonderful rapport with the duo with the defensive stars helping him keep seven Premier League clean sheets and book a place at the World Cup. TheMagpiescan also boast one of the sturdiest defences in the top-flight 11 goals conceded so far.

When asked about playing with Schar and Botman: They are great to play with on and off the ball. Communication, calmness and aggressiveness when required, they give everything. It was great to be behind them.
