Sporting Lisbon will be without both club captain Sebastian Coates and Hidemasa Morita for the second leg of their Europa league tie against Arsenal. Defender Coates will be unavailable for selection after picking up his third yellow card of the tournament. Midfielder Morita also picked up a booking, ruling him out of the contest in north London.

The Primeira Liga is the top level of the Portuguese football league system. It is contested by 18 teams since the 2014/15 season. Each club plays all teams twice for a total of 34 games.

Based on the point totals at the end of the season, the top two teams will be directly qualified for the UEFA Champions League. The third-placed team must go through qualifying rounds to enter the Champions League. The bottom two teams will be directly relegated to the Portuguese Second Division, while the 16th-placed club will be sent to a relegation playoff.
