The Portuguese Super Cup, or Supertaça Cndido de Oliveira, is a one-match tournament that kicks off each season in Portuguese football. This tournament features the winner of the previous years Primeira Liga and the Portuguese Cup champions. If one single team wins both competitions, the cup runners-up are then invited to play for the title.

The Portuguese Federation made two unsuccessful attempts to establish the competition in 1944 and in 1964, but the competition was finally established as an official tournament in 1979. The first 22 editions were played via a two-legged format, but the FPF changed that to keep the calendar from being too crowded since the 2001 edition. The game is held at a neutral venue, which is determined by the Portuguese Football Federation as soon as the names of both teams involved are revealed.

Did you know? Porto entered the second decade of the 21st century as the most winning team in the Supertaça de Portugal, with 21 titles to their name, and as the team to have featured in the most Supertaça Cndido de Oliveira finals (30 out of the first 41).
